St. Augustine, Fla  – This summer families can enjoy their free time by enjoying plenty of free events on Florida's Historic Coast. Free festivals and special events in St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and The Beaches range from celebrations of history, food, nature, culture and the arts, music and sports. Here are just a few highlights of the many activities taking place on Florida's Historic Coast this summer.

 

Every Wednesday through August 1

Summer Movie Series

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum and the Colonial Oak Music Park offer the free Summer Movie Series at the Colonial Oak Music Park. Every Wednesday through September 12

Music by the Sea Concert

Through September 12 (except for July 4), this free weekly concert series at the St. Johns County Ocean Pier features a wide variety of musical genres from 7-9 p.m. Bring a beach chair or blanket along with a favorite beverage and get ready to dance. Starting at 6 p.m., dinner is offered as an option for concertgoers. All dinners $10 or less. Farm Swap and Music Jam

Enjoy music from local musicians while shopping for farm-fresh produce at the Florida Agricultural Museum. The event is open to the public from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. 7900 Old Kings Rd. North, Palm Coast 386-446-7630 www.floridaagmuseum.org

 

Fourth Saturdays through September 30

Free Historic Walking Tour

A tour guide will relate more than 400 years of St. Augustine's past during this 1.5-hour history lesson. This free tour departs from Tour Saint Augustine at 4 p.m. Advance reservations required. 4 Granada St., St. Augustine 904-825-0087 www.staugcitywalks.com  

 

July 4 Fireworks Over the Matanzas 

The 4th of July Concert and Fireworks in St. Augustine start at 6 p.m. with music by The All Star Orchestra in the Plaza de la Constitución. At 9:30 p.m., one of the largest fireworks displays on the East Coast bursts above the ancient Castillo de San Marcos and reflects in the waters of the Matanzas Bay. Admission is free with the best vantage points along the bayfront between the Castillo and the Bridge of Lions. Parking is available in the parking garage. July 7, August 4 and September 8

Cannon Firing at Fort Matanzas

Join re-enactors at Fort Matanzas to learn a little history and watch the fort's cannons fire. Boat tours, complete with cannon firings will take place at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. This event is weather permitting. August 24-26 Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament

The Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament is taking place in Vilano Beach where competing athletes are from more than 75 different beaches throughout Florida, the United States and the world. This event takes place at the Vilano Beach ramp. Sing Out Loud Music Festival

The Sing Out Loud Music Festival, the largest free music festival in St. Johns County, returns for four weekends this September. Hundreds of performances will take place at multiple music venues around St. Augustine in an epic celebration. In a convergence of musical genres as wide-ranging as folk-tinged Indie Pop, powerhouse Soul, conscientious Punk Rock, bittersweet Americana, progressive Bluegrass, Alternative Country and more, this year's festival carries on the tradition of presenting an exciting and eclectic mix of local, national and regional singers, songwriters and musicians. Changing of the Guard

At 6 p.m. see history come to life when 18th-century Spanish soldiers march down St. George Street from the Colonial Quarter to the Governor's House Cultural Center & Museum where they perform authentic military drills before firing an exciting volley of musketry. Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live!
