How One Island Makes A Difference To Climate Change-Desroches Island Powering Down For Earth Hour 2014

On 29th March 2014, at 8.30pm, Desroches Island, a luxury destination in the Amirante Archipelago, will join millions of people, cities, destinations and attractions all over the world by turning off the power for one hour: Earth Hour. Earth Hour is the largest voluntary environmental movement on the planet. 

Desroches Island is wholly committed to the environment and by shutting down their generators on the island for one hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm; it will save hundreds of litres of fuel from being burned.  To celebrate Earth Hour 2014, an evening of fire lit festivities will take place on the island for guests to enjoy. The evening will be themed around Eat, Pray, Love and will include:

EAT

6.30pm Management Team meet & greet at the L' Amirantes Bar

7.30pm Dinner on the Beach | Feet in the Sand

Dinner to consist of an Eat, Pray, Love indulge featuring… Italian, Indian and Indonesian
house specialties, including Spit Roasted Lamb with malt and paprika, Tandoori Prawns &
Garlic Naan Bread.

Intereactive: Soto Ayam + Satays, Gnocchi with Tomato and Parmesan

SUPPORT

8.30pm Desroches Island

Complete electricity shutdown for 60 minutes including all communication other than the satellite communication (in case of emergency). For that hour there will be no internet, air conditioning, generated electricity, etc.

9.30pm Jump Start

The power is turned back on and Desroches has done its bit to help save our planet and the island.

10.00pm - till Late Bon-Fire + Home-made Marshmallows
