Hot Toddy's And Storm Watching At The Lugger Portloe

Bespoke Hotels

The Lugger in Portloe, Cornwall celebrates the Great British Weather this Autumn with the ‘StormWatching’ package.   More comforting and romantic than a Richard Curtis film, the hotel will provide macs, brollies and wellies for watching dark skies and dramatic waves crashing on the beach followed by a hot toddy and buttered crumpets in front of the open fire back at the hotel.

The Lugger is the definition of ‘getting away from it all’.  Phone signal is intermittent to none.  You feel your shoulders relax and tension decrease as you journey to the hotel and can’t help but be bowled over by the amazing sea front location and beautiful Cornish fishing village.   With no street lights and so, no light pollution, it is one of the best spots for seeing a pure dark sky and star gazing.  (Although each room does have a torch available.)

Dinner for both nights is prepared by Chef, Jonathan Done and his team.  Taking inspiration from the stunning coastline, Chef picks rock samphire, nettles and wild garlic when in season.   Fish comes from the sea in front of the hotel and ports along the coastline and, all the breads and pastas are home-made, often featuring new flavours such as walnut and onion.   Jonathan’s menus regularly include crab, turbot, rabbit, lamb, pigeon and game.   The menu changes daily to ensure it is supporting the local environment and is truly sustainable.

Books, board games and the bar, followed by sinking into a deep, cosy bed make for a far more accepting take on the “awful British weather”.

Storm Watching Packages are £318 for 2 people for 2 nights, Sunday-Thursday
