Original Travel

Original Travel has launched its second edition of its magazine 'Original Traveller', 20 years of experiences and expertise put to paper.

This month Original Travel has released the second issue of the Original Traveller magazine, the perfect way to celebrate the tour operator's 20th anniversary in the travel industry.

The magazine focuses on sustainability, slow travel, community-based-tourism and experience-led trips; celebrating the places you know and love, but also shining a light on those destinations Original Travel predicts will become the next generation of travel classics. With contributions from some the best writers in the business, including award-winners Stanley Stewart and Francisca Kellett, this edition is sure to inspire some serious wanderlust.

Read about Swedish Lapland, the snowclad setting for the first ever Original Travel client trip, complete with dog-sledding and chasing the Northern Lights, and Lisbon, a city break destination par excellence. Meanwhile, Colombia is our new crush, and a celebration of the fact that destinations can, and do, rise from the ashes. Elsewhere, Tokyo is the delicious distillation of all things Japan (arguably our all-time favourite destination); Jordan has been the quintessential Big Short Break destination from day one – a real pocket rocket of a place; and the US of A has proved a winner for families and couples alike for two decades now.

Those articles are supplemented by the unparalleled expertise of our own exceptional team. Beyond suggesting where to go, the magazine gives you insight on what to do, and how to look good doing it, with the latest must-have kit and equipment, the most exciting new openings, regional recipes and clever travel hacks. Find out what's hot (and what's not) in travel for 2023; read how to safari better; sit down with award-winning filmmakers and conservationists Beverly and Derek Joubert; indulge in laid-back island life with Sonu and Eva Shivdasani; and of course, find out why you should book with Original Travel, from our charitable foundation, our additional services, our Concierge network and our 20-year pedigree.

Tom Barber, Co-founder of Original Travel and Original Traveller Editor, says: 'Since the release of the first edition in 2022 we have seen the travel industry bounce back from travel restrictions, stronger than ever. In sync with this bounce back, Original Travel has what I believe is our strongest ever team, so I'm extremely excited for the future. Reaching the two decade mark is no mean feat so thank you to all those who have booked through Original Travel – bring on the next 20 years!'

Original Travel curates tailor-made itineraries, crafted by destination experts, to 77 countries worldwide from Anguilla to Zimbabwe. Since its launch in 2003, it has created 50,000 itineraries, each unique and adhering to the company ethos that “Life is in the Detail”.

Original Travel is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Campbell Irvine Ltd, who are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and who offer a brand new travel insurance policy that includes cover for cancellation or curtailment of a trip due to contracting coronavirus, or through being quarantined or refused permission to travel due to infection or suspected infection. This insurance policy is only valid for travel to countries where there is no FCDO advice against all but essential travel. Full details can be found on a new section on Original Travel's website, entitled 'Coronavirus Confidence'.

Original Travel also has its own specialist dive division. Original Diving is the world's only luxury dive travel outfit.

Three of our consultants were recognised in Conde Nast Traveler's 2022 Travel Specialists list, including Co-founder Tom Barber as family specialist, Jacqui Brooks as Indonesia specialist and Oliver Rodwell as Mexico specialist, giving an excellent snapshot of our expertise. Also in 2022, Original Travel was named as one of world's Best Tour Operator's in Conde Nast Traveler's annual Reader's Choice Awards.

Original Travel clients enjoy a wealth of additional services they would not find with any other UK tour operator, including:

  • A brace of additional services designed to make departure easier than ever. Every Original Travel client, regardless of whether they're off on a long weekend to Seville, or a multi-destination sabbatical, will enjoy UK airport meet and greet, fast track UK check-in, fast track UK security*, lounge access and pre-booked flight seats. There are also upgrade options to include: a luggage transfer service from your home to the airport; fast track check-in and security and lounge access on your flight home; fast track through immigration on your return to the UK.
  • The knowledge that not only will Original Travel absorb the carbon footprint of their international flights, but also - in an industry-first - car-hire and transfers, and other flights (even if booked independently).
  • The knowledge that they are contributing to Our Foundation, which supports nearly 100 humanitarian projects in 30 developing countries. To date, nearly £1.5 million has been invested to support five key areas: child protection, vocational training, economic development assistance, preservation of cultural and natural heritage and safeguarding the lifestyles of indigenous peoples.
