One of Hoshino Resorts' brands, 'KAI' is a leading brand of luxury boutique onsen (hot spring) ryokans. With a total of 15 KAI facilities in Japan, every establishment offers a contemporary take on the traditional Japanese inn by providing unique, location-specific experiences. Ranging from exclusive activities to specialty suites — everything is designed to immerse guests in the lavish world of Japanese regional craftsmanship.
KAI Aso, located in Aso-Kuju National Park and 2 hours away from Fukuoka Airport, was rated as one of the most exemplary ryokans of the fourth pavilion level, "Top class comfort", in the Nihon Michelin Tire Co., Ltd's “MICHELIN GUIDE Kumamoto-Oita 2018”. As such, KAI Aso is the second KAI property that has been featured in the Michelin Guide, with KAI Kaga published in the Michelin Guide in 2016. The concept of the facility is: a place where one can immerse themselves in the natural environs that were born from a caldera.
The first KAI property to be featured in the Michelin Guide, KAI Kaga, was featured in the Toyama-Kanazawa Michelin Guide, and is just a 30-minute express train ride away from Kanazawa City, Ishikawa prefecture. They have started accepting reservations for their special winter snow crab cuisine courses, which are only available from November 7, 2018 to March 10, 2019. This special cuisine was also featured in the Nihon Michelin Tire Co., Ltd's “MICHELIN GUIDE Toyama-Kanazawa 2016”.
In addition, there are three KAI properties in Nikko – KAI Nikko, KAI Kinugawa, and KAI Kawaji. During the upcoming winter season, they will be providing free shuttle bus services that allow guests to get on/off at the Nikko Toshogu Shrine area.
