Hoshino Resorts Opens OMO7 Yokohama

Hoshino Resorts (doq Pty Ltd)

A New Legacy Hotel in the Former Yokohama City Hall

On 21 April 2026, Hoshino Resorts officially opened OMO7 Yokohama by Hoshino Resorts, a full-service city landmark hotel created through the adaptive reuse of part of the former Yokohama City Hall.

The opening marks the OMO brand's second property in Yokohama, Kanagawa, following OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi and further expanding its presence in one of Japan's most vibrant port cities.

Located directly in front of JR Kannai Station, the historic building was designed by Togo Murano, a leading architect of the Showa era who played a key role in shaping modern Japanese architecture.

OMO7 Yokohama is part of the large-scale redevelopment project “BASEGATE Yokohama Kannai,” which embraces the theme of “fusion of the old and new.” The former City Hall's administrative building has been carefully preserved and repurposed, maintaining a familiar and cherished landmark for local residents while establishing a new hub for entertainment and innovation.

Since opening its port in 1859, Yokohama has evolved as a dynamic meeting point of Japanese and international cultures, shaping its identity as a trendsetting city and a source of pride for locals known as “Hama-kko.”

This spirit of blending tradition with innovation, captured as “Hama-ism” is reflected in the city's diverse attractions, from Chinatown and historic Western-style architecture to beloved local eateries. Together, these elements create a lively, uplifting atmosphere, offering visitors a uniquely immersive stay that captures the authentic energy and charm of Yokohama.

As an 'OMO7' property, the hotel offers a full-service experience designed to serve as a city landmark, with extensive amenities including dining venues and curated facilities that reflect the spirit and history of the site.

Guest rooms and public spaces thoughtfully reinterpret the building's heritage, blending nostalgic design elements with contemporary comfort, while motifs inspired by the former City Hall's original tiles, furniture, and interior detailing are woven throughout the property.

To further celebrate the site's heritage, the hotel will host an architectural exhibition, offering guests insight into the building's history and its significance to the people of Yokohama, as well as the evolution of the surrounding cityscape.

In line with the OMO brand's concept of immersive urban travel, OMO7 Yokohama will provide guests with curated recommendations to explore the surrounding Kannai district and beyond, including popular areas such as Yokohama Chinatown, Noge, and Isezakicho.

Guests of OMO7 Yokohama will also be able to enjoy immersive experiences such as “Yokohama Grooving Night” where music, culture, and cuisine come together to reflect the city's vibrant heritage. Rooted in Yokohama's history as a gateway for Western influence, the event features live jazz performances by local musicians, creating an atmosphere that evolves throughout the evening.

During “SWING Time,” DJ OMO Rangers energize the space while sharing insights into Yokohama's musical roots, connecting guests more deeply to the city's culture. Complementing the experience, HAMAKAZE Kitchen offers a taste of Yokohama's food legacy with dishes like Napolitan-style Meatballs and craft beer, highlighting its role as a birthplace of unique culinary traditions.
