Hong Kong Shines With the Launch of Two Multimedia Light Shows

Hong Kong Tourism Board

Hong Kong's iconic Victoria Harbour became a sea of colour and sound on Friday 1 December 2017 with the unveiling of two spectacular light shows.

The evening welcomed the official launch of A Symphony of Lights, a new version of the internationally acclaimed nightly multimedia light show and the winter version of the Hong Kong Pulse Light Show.

Designed by Australian Richard Lindsay, this is the first time the light show has been updated since it launched in 2004. The show now features dynamic rays and bolts of light beamed from 40 buildings across both sides of Victoria Harbour. The show also incorporates a variety of new lighting effects including coloured search, laser and beam lights.

Highlights also include a fan-shaped lighting effect from the roof of the Central Government Offices and the Revenue Tower and 10 LED panels on a number of harbourside buildings which display images and messages encouraging audience participation.

The show is accompanied by music from Asia's leading classical orchestra the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, providing visitors with a thrilling and unforgettable sound-and-light experience. By downloading the A Symphony of Lights mobile app, visitors can listen to the music simultaneously. The 10-minute show runs from 8pm nightly.

During the winter months from 1 to 28 December 2017, A Symphony of Lights will be complimented by the winter version of Hong Kong Pulse Light Show which begins at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The 3D story tells the tale of a snowstorm which covers the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in snow and ice, blowing away the numbers on the Clock Tower and stopping time just before Christmas arrives. An ingenious dragon then sets out to find the missing numbers which are scattered across Hong Kong landmarks. The dragon eventually finds them and restarts the clock just in time to save Christmas.

The official unveiling proceedings were conducted by Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Mr Paul Chan; Commissioner for Tourism of the Government of the HKSA, Miss Cathy Chu; and Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Dr Peter Lam.

Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Dr Peter Lam said both shows add more incentive to visitors considering Hong Kong for their next holiday.

“A Symphony of Lights is a world-renowned and iconic feature of our city's night sky and the new version of this show will further enhance our reputation as an unmissable destination,” Mr Lam said.

“Combined with the joyous atmosphere of the winter version of the Hong Kong Pulse Light Show, these performances ensure that Christmas in Hong Kong will be a truly special experience for every visitor.”
