Now in its 16th year, the annual survey asks loyal readers to reveal their favourite family travel experiences and takes into account multiple factors. Not only are kids' clubs and activities a must, but a sprinkling of adult refuges in the form of a spa or bar never goes amiss. And you can never forget the golden rule when it comes to choosing accommodation for your family holiday: properties with close proximity to attractions that still maintain the advantages of seclusion, comfort and facilities to suit all ages.

Holidays with Kids readers have been more adventurous as new and exotic locations have been added to the mix, and many first-time resort mentions have resulted in a reshuffle in the ranks.
