Stay In has reported a significant increase in searches for luxury accommodation during one of the most important booking weeks of the year. The first week in January saw searches for luxury hotels and cottages increase by 89% compared with last year's figures.

Stay In Devon saw a huge increase of 77%, with Stay In Cornwall reporting a 99% surge in searches for luxury holidays. The rise in people looking to treat themselves after the festive season could be due to the improvement in the economic climate with holidays deemed a luxury in previous years.

Managing Director, James Morris said: "The first week in January is one of our busiest times of year as people often want something to look forward to in the New Year. It's great to see that Devon and Cornwall are popular choices for a luxury holiday."

Stay In spoke to independent cottage company Holiday Cottages who also reported a 54% rise in searches for luxury holiday cottages during the same week. Holiday Cottages also believe that the increase could be due to people having a little more to spend in the current climate.
