Checking in: Where to stay

While The Hamptons is best known for its hamlets and villages, there are plenty of accommodation options for visitors. Take in the views

The waterside Montauk area is steeped in history and Montauk Point Lighthouse is famed as the oldest lighthouse in New York State and the fourth oldest in the United States. Climb to the top of the 110-foot tower for a panoramic 360-degree view. On a clear day visitors can see the hustle and bustle of New York City.

How to get to Long Island:

Long Island is easily accessible by land, rail, air and sea. Seven bridges and two tunnels within the City of New York connect the western end of the island to Brooklyn and Queens. Three major airports serve Long Island; JFK International, La Guardia (LGA), and Long Island MacArthur (ISP). From New York City, the Long Island Rail Road serves 124 stations in Long Island. Alternatively, buses serve most of the island's communities and stop at many railroad stations, shopping centres, airports and beaches. Use the Nassau County NICE Bus or Suffolk County Transit.
