Crooked Goat Opens Barlow Taproom
Enjoy innovative beers with a distinctive western Sonoma County style in the new Crooked Goat Brewing tap room in The Barlow, a 220,000-square-foot culinary and arts center in the town of Sebastopol.

Brewery founders and owners Rich Allen, Paul Vyenielo, Scott Timann, Will Erickson, Andrew Cook, and Andy Erickson discovered their passion by brewing beer in small patches for family and friends. They quickly outgrew their 10-gallon brewing system (which they moved from garage to garage in each others' homes) and recently moved into their full-time production facility and taproom in The Barlow.

With a casual, family-friendly, and dog-friendly atmosphere, the taproom serves up to 14 beers on tap, including four IPAs, two double IPAs, three wheat brews, three stouts, and a lager. The eats menu offers food from several Sonoma County sources — BBQ Smokehouse Bistro & Catering, Vignette Pizzeria, fresh pretzels from Full Circle Baking Company, and flavored popcorn from Comet Corn.

Applewood Inn Unveils Revival Restaurant
With a new look and under new management, the restaurant space at the luxurious Applewood Inn in the Russian River Valley is reborn as Revival restaurant.

Under the leadership of local restaurateur Crisa Luedtke (Boon Eat + Drink, Big Bottom Market, El Barrio, Boon Hotel + Spa) as restaurant consultant and chef Ben Spiegel (formerly of Skal in New York City and The Willows Inn on Lummi Island in Washington), both the space and the menu have undergone a complete transformation.

The wonderful stone fireplace remains a focal point, joined by the curved, hammered metal bar at the entry, plus wood floors, bare wood tables, white walls, and wagon wheel chandeliers. Dinner service is now offered on the balcony patio overlooking the fountain garden.

The seasonal menu features western Sonoma County ingredients paired in unusual ways, to create familiar yet unexpected dishes, such as a plate of Bay Area anchovies decorated with basil, unripe plum, and grebiche; summer squash with makrut lime, pistachio, and green grapes; or local halibut crudo decorated with meunière and roasted bones.

TOURS

Holidays in Healdsburg Adds Family-Friendly Evenings
The fourth annual Holidays in Healdsburg tour features two new offerings for 2016 — a fun blind wine tasting experience on the afternoon excursions and the chance for families with children to enjoy small-town Sonoma Wine Country holiday cheer on the evening outings.

Offered Nov. 25 to Dec. 31 by Wine Country Walking Tours, the Holidays in Healdsburg guided tour blends the best of Wine Country with the magic of the season for a creative, fun, and entertaining holiday walking and tasting adventure.

The trendy town of Healdsburg glistens with life during the holidays, offering colorful street decorations, festive window displays, horse-drawn carriages, Christmas carolers, and a beautiful Christmas tree in the historic Plaza.

On the four-hour afternoon wine-and-food-pairing tour (11 a.m. to 3 p.m., daily), you'll sip, nibble, stroll, and savor your way around this festive town. Discover for yourself why certain wines taste better with specific foods while learning about local wines, cuisine, culture, trends, and history.

This year for the first time, the afternoon Holidays in Healdsburg tour includes a fun and entertaining blind tasting experience. How much does sight influence taste? If the glass is black and you can't see inside, can you taste if the wine is red or white?

Healdsburg takes on an even more magical seasonal glow as day slips into night, and the two-hour evening tour (5 to 7 p.m., Thursday to Sunday) makes the perfect first course for a holiday night on the town. Stroll your way through the appetizer hour, sipping boutique wines and nibbling on savory bites, artisan chocolates, and other delectable goodies.

Evening tour itineraries are based on your interests and the holiday happenings in town that night, and can be designed to be family friendly. This is a wonderful way to create family holiday memories and traditions in the perfect Christmas Carol setting.

Holidays in Healdsburg daytime tours are $89 per person; evening tours are $49 for adults or $39 for youth.
