Bio Ben Thomas

Ben initially developed his passion for the hospitality and tourism industry toward when he finished High School in 2005, after which he began studying at the Intercontinental Hotel School, Sydney. His first exposure to the Concierge department was in 2006, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Parramatta, where he began a 3-year placement as a casual Porter during his studies. After the completion of his university degree, he decided it was time for change of scenery and moved to the Hilton Sydney as a full time porter in early 2009. Ben's current Chief Concierge, Jason Aberin, joined shortly after and within a short period had promoted Ben as a Bell Captain.

By late 2010, he decided to travel while he was still young and spent the following 15 months travelling through Europe and North America. During this time he continued his enjoyment for the Concierge role by working for nine months in a small downtown hotel in Vancouver,

Canada. On his return to Sydney, Assistant Chief Concierge at the Hilton, Nathan Brown, contacted Ben with the request for him to rejoin the hotel as a Bell Captain. This time was when Ben realised his true passion for Concierge, taking a much more involved interest in Les Clefs d'Or and started joining the team for many different industry events. Seeing his potential and enthusiasm, Jason quickly helped with Ben's development to a full time Concierge in mid 2012, where Ben has been thoroughly enjoying his time since.

To Ben, the role of a concierge is essential to any guest staying at a luxury hotel, whether that be a smiling, friendly and approachable face in the lobby, a local area guide, restaurant connoisseur or a last minute life saver.
