HF HOLIDAYS NEW SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP IN THE YORKSHIRE DALES

First of many projects to help offset carbon emissions

Leading Walking & Activity Tour Operator HF Holidays has partnered with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) to plant 1500 trees in and around the Yorkshire Dales.

The partnership is one of the many strategies in place to support HF Holidays' own plans to drive sustainability throughout the organisation and actively offset travel carbon emissions and promote sustainable tourism.  The tour operator has pledged £15,000 from the HF Holidays Pathways Fund, to plant 1,500 trees.

1,500 trees well cared for and maintained over 50 years can absorb an estimated 250 tonnes of carbon, or the equivalent CO2 emissions from 500 HF Leader return flights from London to Italy.

The trees have been planted to create a unique area in Ormsgill Woodland in Malhamdale, which is in close proximity to HF Holidays' own country house, Newfield Hall which is located in the famous Dales; a very popular location with HF walkers and guests who enjoy exploring Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Pen y Ghent each year.

Mark Queen, HF Holidays Assistant House Manager, Newfield Hall, and HF Holidays Walks Leader, Mervyn Flecknoe met with Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust Deputy CEO, Michael Devlin and Woodland Officer Carol Douglas, to mark the dedication of trees to HF Holidays and officiate the HF plaque on Tuesday 21 January 2020 and look forward to future projects in the local area.

Michael Devlin, Deputy CEO, YDMT said “Thanks to HF Holidays' support, Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust can continue to support the people, landscape and wildlife of this special area. Your vital support not only helps to create new woodland but also brings people together to tackle climate change and enjoy the wellbeing effects of being outside in the countryside.”

The HF Holidays Pathways Fund has helped to protect and improve the countryside where HF Holidays' guests walk. This has been achieved through generous donations from HF Holidays' members and guests. In addition, the fund provides holidays to those who could not otherwise afford one.

Recent projects donations include, £20,000 towards the reconstruction of the Keswick and Threlkeld path in the Lake District, which was destroyed during Storm Desmond in 2015. £10,000 Scafell Pike, footpath repair on the most popular route - the Brown Tongue to Hollowstones path and £5,000 for Cader Idris, Snowdonia – helping to fund the repair of eroded Moelfryn and Mynydd Moel footpaths.  For detail on more projects see here https://www.hfholidays.co.uk/pathwaysfund
