Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines today announced its traffic statistics for August, finishing the peak summer travel season with a strong month that reaffirmed its standing as the industrys best at attracting travelers and filling seats in 2004.

The 87.5 percent load factor posted by Hawaiian for scheduled service in August was second only to JetBlue at 89.3 percent and marked only the second month this year in which Hawaiian did not lead the nations carriers. The rest of the top five were Spirit, 84.4 percent; United, 83.8 percent; and Northwest, 83.3 percent, according to Aviation Daily.

Hawaiians load factor, revenue passenger miles (RPMs), and available seat miles (ASMs) remained essentially flat in August compared to last year, while its number of passengers dipped by 7.3 percent despite recording the companys second-best results in 2004.

As it has since the year began, Hawaiians overall load factor for 2004 tops the industry while continuing to improve with each succeeding month, finishing August at 85.2 percent, an increase of 6.8 percent compared to last year. Rounding out the top five after Hawaiian were JetBlue, 83.2 percent; Northwest, 80.5 percent; United, 79.6 percent; and Spirit, 78.2 percent. Year-to-date, Hawaiian continues to show improvement in all traffic categories compared to 2003, highlighted by a 12.9 percent increase in RPMs.
