HONOLULU - Hawaiian Airlines ended 2004 the way it started - as the nation's most successful airline at attracting customers. Hawaiian led the airline industry with a systemwide load factor of 85.7 percent for 2004, an improvement of 5.4 percentage points over 2003 (see chart below). For every month of 2004, Hawaiian led all carriers nationwide in year-to-date load factor.

Along with filling more seats, Hawaiian improved in its most important traffic category - Revenue Passenger Miles (RPMs) - increasing by 7.6 percent versus 2003. After Hawaiian, the remainder of 2004's top five airlines for load factor were JetBlue, 83.2 percent; Northwest, 80.2 percent; United, 79.2 percent; and Spirit, 78.7 percent, according to statistics published by Aviation Daily. The industry average for the year stands at 75.7 percent. For December 2004, Hawaiian's 84.1 percent load factor led all carriers while remaining unchanged compared to the year prior. The top five airlines in load factor for December 2004 following Hawaiian were JetBlue, 82.0 percent; Northwest, 78.2 percent; United, 77.7 percent; and Continental, 77.3 percent. The industry average for the month was 73.9 percent.
