A short drive over the Austrian border leads to Salzburg, the city of Mozart, which comes to life with private tours of the imposing Hohensalzburg Fortress, Mozart's birthplace, and the gardens of the Mirabell Palace, seen in “The Sound of Music.” The next day is set aside for an excursion into the real Alpine Bavaria, past picturesque farmhouses and villages to the small mountain paradise of Obersalzberg, and the site of Hitler's notorious “Eagle's Nest.”

In the stunning Wachau Valley, guests join a river cruise down the Danube below forested hills topped with picturesque churches, ruined castles such as the fortress of Dürnstein, and the great monastery of Melk. Then it's on to Krems, where guests sample the unique Wachau-style wine in the cellars of a local winery.  The last day is spent in imperial Vienna, where guests take a guided tour of Maria Theresa's Schönbrunn Palace and formal gardens, enjoy the legendary coffee and cakes at Café Demel, and experience an extraordinary concert of Viennese classical music combined with a delicious meal of traditional Austrian fare.
