There’s motion in the ocean as the world’s biggest act makes its way back to Hervey Bay on Queensland’s Fraser Coast earlier than expected.
Harvey and his band of around 10,000 humpback whales have begun making guest appearances along the east coast, warming up for their grand finale in the warm protected waters of Hervey Bay.
From July to November, the Bay is the place to be to have an up-close-and-personal encounter with the rock stars of the sea.
Named in the Top 10 Whale Watching Spots in Australia by Australian Geographic, Hervey Bay is one of the only places in the world where the humpbacks stay, play, and teach their new calves ‘the moves’.
This Saturday, the annual Paddle Out for Whales marks the unofficial start of the season with an anticipated 985 paddlers to hit the water at Scarness Beach in Hervey Bay and show their support for whales.
Whales attract around 60,000 visitors to the region each year and the whale watching industry contributes close to $70 million to the local economy.
With some of the best whale encounters in the country, a month-long Whale Festival in August and the world’s largest sand island on its doorstep, Aussies are being encouraged to ‘holiday with the humpbacks’ this winter on the Fraser Coast.
Early bird deals are available now, including 20% off Fraser + Whales packages at Kingfisher Bay Resort and 10% off selected whale watching tours. See the full list of deals at www.queensland.com/whales
