Starting March 30, 2014, Philippine Airlines will become the biggest operator between the Philippines and Japan with the opening of twice a day service to Haneda, complementing the thrice a day flights to Narita – main gateways to Tokyo.
Haneda's Tokyo International Airport is tagged the world's most slot-restrictive airport and a prime business hub. It will become PAL's fifth gateway to Japan; others are Fukuoka, Osaka and Nagoya.
Along with the route expansion, PAL is upgrading its inflight menu with the introduction of meals on all flights to and from Japan.
The Philippine flag carrier is expanding its presence in Japan in response to a strong market demand and as part of an ambitious fleet and network expansion.
In 2013, PAL re-introduced service to the Middle East and Europe, made possible by the arrival of new Airbus jets, totalling 65 worth approximately $9.5 billion. Overseas Filipino workers now enjoy non-stop flights to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam using the latest type of Airbus 330-300 jets.
With the lifting of the European Union ban mid-2013, PAL re-established links to Europe, initially to London, after an absence of 15 years. Previous to PAL's eastern route expansion, PAL added Darwin and Brisbane to its Australian network that already includes Sydney and Melbourne. With the expanded Australia network, PAL continues to enjoy market leadership on the Australia-Philippine routes due to the non-stop flights and modern aircraft. Passengers from Australia also get convenient transfers to 30 domestic and 34 international destinations from a single airport terminal in Manila.
PAL's transformation goes beyond more destinations and new jets. It also entails further raising the standards of service and innovation on the ground and in the air – standards for which the PAL brand has always been celebrated and known for.
Inflight and ground services have been enhanced to address customer needs. Some of these changes include: a new customized passenger services system; exquisite inflight cuisine developed by international master chefs; inflight amenity innovations such as onboard iPads and inflight connectivity (PAL InAir) that enables phone calls and internet browsing initially on long-haul flights.
Recognizing the evolving needs and preferences of customers, PAL has introduced a new fare structure designed to attract today's savvy travellers who are cost-conscious yet continue to have high expectations in terms of service quality. PAL will continue to carry the Philippine flag overseas, guided by its principles of service excellence and social responsibility. It aims to be responsive to the needs of its passengers and mindful of its role as a partner in developing global travel and tourism.
