Sydney based, Tourism Garden is delighted to have been appointed as the tourism representative for Hamamatsu City and Hamana Lake Tourism Bureau. Located between Tokyo and Osaka in Shizuoka Prefecture, Hamamatsu is in the centre of Japan, along a beautiful stretch of ocean and lake. It is a coastal area with centuries of history and much to attract future Australian visitors.
Mr. Yasuhisa Suzuki, Manager, of Tourism Promotion Department at the Hamamatsu & Lake Hamana Tourism Bureau said: 'We are delighted to start promoting Hamamatsu and Lake Hamana to Australians. The unique history and geography of the city make it the perfect place to get to know more about Japan. We look forward to welcoming more Australians'.
The city of Hamamatsu began its modern development as a post station along the Old Tokaido Road, a highway that connected the cities of Tokyo and Kyoto. Hamamatsu was different from most post stations, as it was also a castle town. Hamamatsu Castle dates back to the mid-16th century, and today is surrounded by parklands known for historical significance and stunning cherry blossoms.
Motorbikes & Music:
The city is known throughout Japan for the manufacture of motorcycles and musical instruments with many internationally renowned companies calling Hamamatsu their headquarters. Both have been a big part of modern Hamamatsu's industrial growth.
Foodie haven:
The natural surroundings have contributed to a wonderful food culture: delicious grilled eel from Lake Hamana, fish and seafood from both lake and sea, as well as gyoza dumplings, and juicy mikan mandarins.
Active Pursuits & Sightseeing:
Visitors can enjoy hiking and cycling in and around Hamamatsu and Lake Hamana. Throughout the year there are festivals to be enjoyed, stunning floral displays and a flower park, the museum of musical instruments, traditional industry highlights, and much more to discover.
