Halloween Fun At Yesterdays World In Battle

Yesterday

Throughout October family attraction and museum Yesterdays World in Battle, Sussex will be transformed into a spooky haunt for visitors to explore.

This social history museum has appeal which spans all generations with the added benefit of being located in the chocolate box high street of Battle opposite Battle Abbey also within easy reach of a mainline station.

The 15th century attic at Yesterdays World is the perfect setting for the Spot the Ghost competition and children who spot all the ghosts in the windows of the displays can enter into a prize draw to win a goody bag with items from Yesterdays Worlds nostalgic gift shop.

Listen out for all the eerie sounds when climbing the creaky stairs to the spookily decorated haunted attic.

Visitors to Yesterdays World can discover the past 100 years when they walk through a series of vividly recreated shops and displays to experience the look, feel and taste of how we lived at the turn of the century and beyond.

There are 25 shops and displays, many in cobbled streets, including Mrs Bumbles famous Chocolate shop where you can breathe in the sweet scent of penny twists and see all the colourful jars of goodies on the heavily-laden shelves. As you stroll past the Victorian kitchen, the air is filled with the aroma of spices, where the hard working cook and her maid are preparing dinner. Visit the 1930s grocers, pharmacy, the Victorian Childrens Play Room, wireless shop and other delights from the past.

Parents with young children from pre school upwards can enjoy the enchanting collections which include interactive displays where they can push buttons and hear from characters describing the displays. There is a new evacuee display where everyone can watch a video about life as an evacuee and also try and guess what they can feel inside the touch and feel boxes. In the Royalty Rooms you can see replica crown jewels and listen to Queen Victoria talking about her reign.

Remember that with a few reported ghosts of its own you may even spot a real one on your visit to Yesterdays World!

After exploring 100 years of history you can relax in the 1930s style tea room Nippys and, if the weather is nice, watch the kids on the adventure playground in the garden or playing hide and seek in the play village. Open: 9.30am to 5pm (last admission 3.45pm) seven days a week. Admission: Adult 7, concs 6, child under 5, free, child (aged 5-15) 5, family 20.
