GVB Board of Directors Appoints New Deputy General Manager

Guam Visitors Bureau

Tumon, Guam - The Guam Visitors Board of Directors confirmed the appointment of Mary C. Torres as the new deputy general manager of the visitors bureau at its regular board meeting on February 24, 2005. Torres was selected from a field of nine applicants and a shortlist of five candidates by a selection panel, headed by GVB Board vice-chairman, Bruce Kloppenburg.

Torres has extensive experience in office management and administration, having worked more than 15 years in legal office management. She started her career in office administration and management in the Office of Students for Public Interest Law, Harvard University Law School in 1984. On her return to Guam, she worked in a local law firm as office manager and most recently, held the position of legal assistant in a law office before joining the Guam Visitors Bureau.Torres is an active member of several community and civic organizations.

She is an elected Board of Director of the Guam National Olympic Committee (GNOC); she is vice-chair of the Guam Election Commission Board of Directors; and she serves on the current board of the Guam Football Association. She had previously served in various bodies including the Guam Board of Education, the Board of Cosmetology, the Guam Board of Nurse Examiners and was former president of the Robbie Webber Youth Association Board. Ms. Torres is highly regarded for her contribution to the development of youth soccer on Guam. She is co-founder and administrator of a large soccer club and has organized soccer tournaments including chairing the organizing committee of the 2004 East Asian Football Federation under-14 Boys Youth Tournament on Guam.Ms. Torres graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachussetts in 1989. Married to Justice Robert T. Torres, she and her husband reside in the southern village of Santa Rita. They have one son, two married daughters and a grandson.
