Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa Celebrates 90th Anniversary and Unveils Third Phase of Multi-Year Renovation for Summer 2016
Montauk's Iconic Oceanfront Destination To Debut Forty-Two New Guest Rooms with Top-Notch Management and Inventive Partnerships
Montauk, New York (March 2016) – Set on Montauk's most pristine stretch of oceanfront real estate, Gurney's Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa is now embarking on the third phase of a multi- year renovation, to be unveiled by May 2016. The first two phases of the transformation included 38 new Oceanfront guestrooms, a revamp of the Beach Club, debut of the resort's redesigned signature ocean-fed seawater swimming pool (the only one of its kind in the United States), updated common spaces and five new food and beverage venues in partnership with LDV Hospitality.
This season, to reaffirm its legacy as the epicenter of the Hamptons experience for now 90 years, Gurney's will rollout an additional 42 Oceanview renovated guestrooms, and the beginnings of a major, head-to-toe spa overhaul. Accompanying the ongoing revamp of the resort and spa, is a new management 'dream team' led by General Manager Michael Nenner, an accomplished hospitality industry and Four Seasons veteran with more than 15 years of luxury resort and hotel experience nationwide.
“Over the last year, we have seen Gurney's live up to its potential as a full-service resort destination. This season, we are taking it one step further by offering guests an enhanced experience through the additions of new forty-two Oceanview rooms and elevated service provided by an experienced new management team,” said Gurney's President George Filopoulos. “We look forward to showcasing the best of Montauk through the continued evolution of the Gurney's brand.”
Renovations
Following an extensive renovation last summer by designer Michael Kramer of Michael Thomas & Co, Gurney's will debut forty-two luxury rooms this year, all with dramatic ocean views. The redesigned accommodations will offer fresh amenities and a new look, balancing sophistication and beachside comfort to be enjoyed by loyal and new guests alike.
Designed using a neutral color pallet, the finished look pays homage to the resort's 90 year history with modern interpretations on vintage pieces. Reclaimed beach beaten cedar siding from the property has been repurposed and installed as eye catching cathedral ceilings in addition to the reclaimed oak hardwood floors. The drapery has been custom dip dyed ombre to resemble the receding ocean, and all the new rooms showcase furniture custom made by hand. In addition, following light upgrades to the iconic Seawater Spa last year, 2016 will mark the planning stages of a head-to-toe transformation, with a full renovation of the 32,000 sq. ft. space, debuting in 2017.
Partnerships
New for 2016, Gurney's will elevate the events program further through a full time partnership with experientially-driven wellness firm Wellthily to bring top workout classes from across the country. A varied array of fitness classes and tailored wellness retreats is now available to guests year round. Additionally, Gurney's will partner with several established and up and coming lifestyle brands for the 'Fashion Collective at Gurney's,” a pop-ups series which will take place on weekends throughout the summer on the roof of the hotels' oceanfront spa roof deck.
Experienced Management
To accompany the resort's multi-million dollar renovation, Gurney's has further elevated the guest experience with a reimagined management 'dream team' of hospitality industry veterans. General Manager, Michael Nenner, joins from Four Seasons with more than fifteen years of luxury resort experience nationwide. Nenner's past record includes numerous successful property overhauls to service and renovations at Sea Island Resorts and San Ysidro Ranch. Additionally, Kathleen Hahn, spa industry veteran with over fifteen years experience, has joined the reimagined management team as Spa Director. Prior to joining Gurney's, Hahn held the role of Spa Director at the St. Regis Bahia Beach in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Hahn's appointment follows several new hires with stellar service backgrounds for the resort, including Juliana Joanna Marchini, Director of Sales & Marketing, who brings extensive experience in the luxury sector including The SET Hotels and The Bulgari Hotel and Residences, London. Together the trio will oversee numerous operations for the entire resort, leading the hotel and staff to continually delight guests with hospitality and Montauk charm. In addition to a top-notch management team, Gurney's has hired a 'Summer Specialist' to cater to the needs of guests this summer. As travelers replace their share houses with hotel rooms, Gurney's 'Summer Specialist' will arrange accommodations for large groups and families, coordinate reservations, ensure your personal items are kept safe in between each visit and confirm your Beach Club cabana is ready every morning.
