Guest Chef Prepares Exclusive Two-Day Tempura Menu at Tenmasa, Altira Macau

Altira Macau

Macau: Combining premium ingredients with a culinary legacy passed down through three generations, Tenmasa at Altira Macau presents an array of delicately flavored masterpieces. From March 26 to 27, 2014, Executive Chef Takayuki Nonaka of Tenmasa Tokyo will be in Macau, offering discerning diners an exquisite set dinner menu that includes Wagyu beef tempura and fresh seafood sashimi.

With humble beginnings as a tiny eatery in 1937, Tenmasa is now Tokyo's most celebrated tempura restaurant. Founder Masaji Hashii's frying instructions and recipes have been passed down to his grandson and current owner Yoshiaki Hashii, ensuring that seventy years of experience are preserved in the venue's exceptional cuisine.

Under the direction of Chef de Cuisine Takenori Noguchi, Tenmasa at Altira Macau -- the only extension of the brand outside of Japan -- continues this distinguished tradition. Its intimate ambiance, modeled after the Tokyo restaurant, fuses seductive modern design with traditional elements.

Chef Noguchi also oversees the authenticity of Tenmasa's fine cuisine. Ingredients are specially flown in from Japan several times a week. Also, the tempura is cooked in a way that covers the ingredients in a thin crispy batter while maintaining their original flavors. Highly skilled chefs work their art before the diners, using special metal chopsticks to sense the vibrations of the food to determine that each item is cooked to perfection.

Executive Chef Nonaka's guest stint enlivens Macau's dining scene. Available for only two nights, the dinner menu encompasses highly anticipated dishes such as a delicate fresh cream soya milk tofu appetizer, blue fin tuna sashimi, a variety of seafood tempura and Japanese wagyu beef tempura.

Beginning his career in 1988 at Tenmasa Tokyo, Chef Nonaka worked with two generations of the restaurant's founding family. Aside from impressing patrons with his creations, the chef possesses the remarkable ability to distinguish ingredients by the sizzling sounds they make in the fryer. Before becoming the Executive Chef of Tenmasa Tokyo, he helped to open Tenmasa Marunouchi Building and Tenmasa Haneda Airport in 2002 and 2004, respectively.

The exclusive set dinner is priced at MOP2,480* per person. For greater dining pleasure, the Japanese wagyu beef tempura dish will be available after the two-day guest promotion, until May 31, 2014.

Located on Level 11 and accessible by dedicated elevators, Tenmasa is open for lunch from noon to 2:30pm, and dinner from 6pm to 10:30pm. It is closed on Mondays.
