Guernsey will be hosting possibly the only physical LGBTQ+ Pride parade in the British Isles, perhaps even Europe. Celebrations will take place on Saturday 12th September, after being declared the first place in the British Isles to be Covid-free with no active cases in over 100 days.
The celebrations will begin in earnest at 4pm when the sensational Pride Parade winds its way down towards the Market Square in Guernsey's capital St Peter Port, followed by a silent disco for Under 18's in the evening and official afterparty at Fusion, the largest night club in Guernsey.
With stunning views over the harbour of St Peter Port, there will be entertainment for everyone including the Rainbow Chorus Choir and The BBC Voice's singer Ivy Paige on the main stage, as well as the Princess Project and Drag Queen Story Hour UK in the family area and a post-Pride afternoon pool party and BBQ on the Sunday.
The event is sponsored by The Channel Islands Co-Op for the sixth year running, one of the island's unsung heroes of 2020, keeping the islands' shopping supplies flowing throughout lockdown.
The theme for Pride in 2020 centres around visibility, both in daily life and through representation in the media, to enable LGBTQ+ islanders to feel supported, included, valued and acknowledged.
