From 24 – 26 March 2017, the Channel Island of Guernsey hosts its first Zen Warrior Retreat with a weekend of masterclasses by international fitness and martial arts guru Sensei Beko Kaygee and local yoga company PowerYoga Guernsey.

Beko, who has been promoting exercise, dance, martial arts and holistic health for over 22 years, is visiting the island to lead eight masterclasses over the three days, encouraging students to learn new skills and disciplines in Guernsey's healthy, natural surroundings. Capoeira fitness, Tai Chi, martial arts, as well as various yoga practices all feature in the retreat programme, and take place at various locations around the island.

The masterclass programme includes: Chi Kung (Qigong), a holistic series of exercises that have been passed down through generations in central China; Tribal Yoga, inspired by ancient Egyptian yoga and martial arts with rhythmic tribal movements; Capoeira Fitness, which combines dancing and combat to the beat of the Berimbau and African Drum; Tai Chi Chuan, incorporating a combination of flowing gentle exercises and some more physically demanding ones; and Dynamic Chi Yoga Flow, a programme that fuses healing Chi Kung exercises, postures, stretches and breathing techniques of yoga, and dynamic yet fluid movements from Tai Chi.

The last day of the Zen Warrior Retreat is dedicated to Budokon, which is a dynamic blend of martial arts, yoga and meditation. As the UK Budokon Director, Beko will work with students to develop the skills and techniques that have been used over the weekend, including floating, handstands, and calisthenics.

Zen Warrior participants can benefit from special accommodation offers at three hotels on the island for the weekend. Moroccan-themed boutique hotel Ziggurat is offering rooms from £50 per night including breakfast and is also hosting a dinner on the Saturday night (www.hotelziggurat.com). Cobo Bay Hotel, located overlooking the beach on Guernsey's scenic west coast is offering the three nights at £198 (single or double/twin rooms), including breakfast and chocolates, fruit and flowers in the room (www.cobobayhotel.com). St Pierre Park Hotel, which has recently undergone a £2.5 million renovation of its spa, is offering the three nights at £220 for single rooms and £270 for double or twin rooms including breakfast (www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/stpierrepark).

The retreat is priced at £100 for all eight classes (individual classes cost £15 or £20). For more information or to book, visit poweryogaguernsey.com/workshops-retreats or email poweryoga@cwgsy.net
