Guam Hosts GVB Afternoon Tea in Taipei for Media and Travel Agents

Guam Visitors Bureau

Tumon, Guam - The small island of Guam USA joined nearly 100 other countries participating in the Taipei International Travel Fair. While in Taiwan for the fair, the Guam delegation hosted an afternoon tea for local media and travel agents at the Brass Monkey. During the GVB Afternoon Tea Media & Agents Gathering, Marketing Manager Pilar Laguaa gave a speech highlighting the significant increase in arrivals to Guam from Taiwan. According to Laguaa, Guam has experienced a 38% increase in arrivals from Taiwan over last year and the increased market share has been instrumental in the island realizing an overall increase in tourist arrivals. Airlines have reported a 10% increase in seat occupancy. Laguaa also shared GVBs marketing plans for Taiwan in 2008, which will continue to focus on the lucrative Family Market, but will also introduce a new promotion called Love in Guam, targeting the wedding market. Guam has welcomed several new attractions this year, including new resorts like the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort, and several restaurants such as Ruby Tuesday, Margaritas Burritos & BBQ, and Red. Guam also welcomed one of the worlds largest Home Depot locations, an American brand name hardware store that many attribute the size to the pending massive construction boom to accommodate the pending buildup of military personnel and their families who will be relocating to Guam over the next ten years from Okinawa.

The GVB Afternoon Tea Media & Agents Gathering was well attended by local media, travel agents, and industry leaders. Entertainment was provided during the event by two of Guams most beloved performers, Ruby & Jesse, who were accompanied by cultural performers. Attendees were treated to a taste of Guam through song, dance, and dcor featuring some of the islands many beautiful attractions, sites, and cultural artwork.

The GVB looks forward to strengthening its ties with Taiwan in 2008 and anticipates arrivals to continue increasing as more Taiwanese visitors come to discover America in Asia on Guam USA!
