Tumon, Guam - The Guam Visitors Bureau represented Guam at the 2007 Taipei International Travel Fair, held in Taiwan from December 14 through the 17th. This is the Taipei International Travel Fairs 15th year and has been called the largest TITF in history, with over 100,000 attendees.
The Guam delegation, lead by GVB Marketing Manager Pilar Laguaa, was accompanied by Guam recording stars, Jesse & Ruby, as well as other representatives from GVB and the island. Jesse & Ruby performed with Chamorro cultural performers on the main stage of the Taipei International Travel Fair and also at China Airlines main fair booth. The local entertainers were also the opening act at a press conference held by the Taipei International Travel Fair.
The Guam delegation took advantage of the opportunities afforded by the attending the travel fair to meet with representatives of the American Club Taipei, also Taiwans largest expat radio station, ICRT, and with executives from the Taipei Association of Travel Agents (TATA). In Taiwan, travel agents are required by law to register with TATA insuring that information about Guam will be shared with the countrys entire community of travel agents.
According to Laguaa, the trip to the Taipei International Travel Fair was an overwhelming success for Guam. We were able to share Guams unique island culture with an audience of interested travelers at the Taiwan International Travel Fair, Laguaa said, We received such a warm reception from the attendees and our cultural performers were a big hit with the crowds.
Arrivals from Taiwan to Guam have been increasing steadily. To date, Guam has realized a 38% increase in arrivals from Taiwan over last year and airlines have reported a 10% increase in seat occupancy. According to Laguaa, GVB will maintain its focus on emerging markets, such as Taiwan, in 2008 and expects to continue seeing improvements in tourist arrivals.
