Greenwich Alive! 16 27 June

Maritime Greenwich

Greenwich Alive! twelve days of art, music, and architecture from Saturday 16 to Wednesday 27 June will celebrate the vibrant cultural, contemporary and classical mix within this beautiful corner of south east London. It will also mark the tenth anniversary since the centre of Greenwich was awarded World Heritage Site status for its architectural, scientific, maritime and royal associations.

Highlights of the multi-arts programme will include an evening concert in the Chapel of the Old Royal Naval College, Handel with Hamper on Sunday, 17 June - during the extended interval concertgoers can picnic outside on the lawns - and a 21st century panel discussion at the new Peter Harrison Planetarium. Speakers will present the architectural challenges of building contemporary, new iconic landmarks within a classical World Heritage Site.

There will be several free events including a new architectural trail through Greenwich Park, open air jazz concerts and lunchtime recitals, street theatre by strolling Shakespearian players, visits to local artists studios and drop-in family design workshops and talks at the Queens House. Visitors will also have a chance to peek into some of the most impressive private gardens in Greenwich, while the finale will be a free event to mark National Veterans Day on 27 June.

Venues hosting events over the twelve days include the Old Royal Naval College, National Maritime Museum (Queens House and Planetarium), Greenwich Royal Park, Greenwich Theatre, Blackheath Halls, Greenwich Picturehouse, St Alfege Church and Greenwich Market.
