Grape Escapes Launches Once-In-A-Lifetime Bordeaux Wine Tour At Destinations Show 2015

Grape Escapes has announced it will be running a one-off, exclusive Premium Scheduled Bordeaux Tour from 08 to 12 September 2015. This 5-day package will include specialist guided tours to nine of the region's top Châteaux – five of which are First Growth estates that will be opening their doors exclusively for the Grape Escapes tour, offering visitors a unique insight into the production techniques of some of the world's best wines. Prices start from £964 per person excluding travel to the region and with a £35 early bird discount. This tour is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Exhibiting at Destinations for the first time, Grape Escapes will also be offering visitors to their stand the chance to taste wine from some of their most popular destinations and enjoy a 10% discount.

The tour includes four breakfasts, three lunches, nine premium châteaux visits and approximately 30 different wines tasted across the Médoc, Saint Emilion, Graves, Sauternes and Pomerol. Some of the estates visited will include the estate and cellars of the Premier Cru Classé Château Mouton Rothschild, the Grand Cru Classé Château Gruaud-Larose in the Saint-Julien appellation and Giscours in Margaux, with a stop off at a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of the Pauillac vineyards for lunch.

Visits in the Bordeaux area will include a VIP tasting and unique tour of the Premier Cru Classé Haut-Brion estate, which does not normally receive visitors, a tour and gourmet picnic lunch at the Grand Cru Classé Château Pape Clement, and an exclusive tour of another Premier Cru Classé, the Château d'Yquem.

Tours of the Saint-Emilion and Pomerol estates will include the Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Angelus, which will open its doors exclusively for the Grape Escapes tour, the Château Petit Village, and the Premier Cru Classé Château Pavie. The visit to this area will also include a guided tour of the village of Saint-Emilion, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Itinerary for the three full-day tours:

Day One

The first day of the tour includes visits to three estates in different sub-regions on the Médoc, offering the opportunity to taste Cabernet Sauvignons made from a variety of different terroirs. The morning starts with a VIP visit and tastings at the estate and cellars of the Premier Cru Classé Château Mouton Rothschild. After a three-course lunch at a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of the Pauillac vineyards, the afternoon continues with full tours and tastings at Grand Cru Classé Châteaux, Gruaud-Larose in the Saint-Julien appellation, and  Giscours in Margaux.

 

Day Two

Day two of the tour focuses primarily on the white wines from Bordeaux made from the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The day starts with a VIP tasting and unique tour of the Premier Cru Classé Haut-Brion estate, which does not normally receive visitors. The next stop is the Grand Cru Classé Château Pape Clement where, following a tour of the estate, a gourmet picnic lunch accompanied by a selection of the Château's wines will be served in the gardens. The final visit of the day in an exclusive tour of another Premier Cru Classé, the Château d'Yquem to discover the secrets of its botrytised wines and taste some of the world's most prestigious sweet wine.

 

Day Three

The third and final day of the tour is spent in Saint-Emilion and Pomerol – the home of the Merlot grape. Premier Grand Cru Classé Château Angelus will open its doors exclusively for the Grape Escapes tour to present its smooth and velvety Saint-Emilion wines. After a light lunch with wine in the neighbouring Pomerol appellation at the Château Petit Village estate, the tour comes to an end at the fifth and final Premier Cru Classé Château Pavie with a tour of the estate and cellars and tasting of the celebrated wines. Before heading back to Bordeaux there will be a guided tour of the village of Saint-Emilion, which is a UNESCO world heritage site.
