Moab BLM, the Utah Friends of Paleontology, and Grand County Trail Mix
Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail Repair: September 17, 2016 - Interested members of the public are invited to join the BLM, the Utah Friends of Paleontology, and Grand County Trail Mix as we work together to replace 17 signs along the Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail, north of Moab, Utah. Paleontologists and volunteers will be onsite removing the old signs, installing new signs, and doing general trail maintenance and improvements. During the work, participants will learn how paleontologists find dinosaur bone, and how they were deposited and became fossilized, as well as the importance of protecting fossils like these. Please join the BLM for this unique, educational opportunity. Please meet us at the Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail at 9 AM. Those interested in volunteering should contact the BLM-Utah Canyon Country District paleontologist ReBecca Hunt-Foster at the BLM-Utah Moab Field Office at rhuntfoster@blm.gov or at 435-259-2179.
Participants are reminded that summer temperatures in the Moab area can be extreme and should plan accordingly and bring their own bottle and sunscreen. Water will be provided. Although the hike to the site is relatively short, working in the sun and heat may not be enjoyable or advisable for everyone. While the hike is very short (1/4 mile), and your volunteer hours can vary in duration, participants should be aware of their own skill level and health, and proceed accordingly.
