Gran Canaria's 'Puddle Party' Fiesta

Seaside Hotels

The 'La Fiesta del Charco' or 'Puddle Party' is a festival like no other, inviting hundreds of locals and visitors to simultaneoulsy jump into a giant lagoon at the sound of canon fire.

Taking place on September 11, the fiesta revives the ancient custom of the Canarian people to 'embarbascar' (practise an aborigine fishing technique) in the coastal pools. Those lucky enough at the fiesta might even catch a fish for dinner!

The Marciega, or 'puddle' is next to the beautiful beach of Callaos in Aldea de San Nicolás on the east coast of Gran Canaria and has been formed by the sea water coming inland due to strong tides at the end of August and beginning of September.  Head to the beach for the day and get ready to run inland to the lagoon when the mayor sets off the rocket at 5pm.

Seven nights at Seaside Palm Beach Hotel***** costs from £1,043 per person based on a couple sharing a double room on a half board basis. This is based on travel from September 9-16. For more information or to book please visit http://www.hotel-palm-beach.co.uk/ or call + 34 928 72 10 32.
