Few others do drinking as well as us Brits - from traditional teas, a summer's day glass of Pimms, local ale, and even home grown wines - we love a tipple on the taste buds!
One contender to knock us off the top spot is Colorado, home to more micro-breweries per capita than any other location in the US. Known as micro-breweries or craft breweries, these small artisan brew houses have cultivated the beer-loving population of the USA and further afield with an impressive beer scene that is continuing to grow year on year.
With over 230 breweries, thousands of beers are produced and sold only in the state so visitors can enjoy pretty much every type of beer in existence and then some. From the better known Fat Tire and Blue Moon to the unique and unusually named Big Bad Baptist from Epic and or Ska's Modus Hoperandi not forgetting Colorado is also home to Coors, the largest brewery facility in the world. Colorado Governor and former brewer, John Hickenlooper, is such a fan of the state's craft beer industry that he recently installed beer taps in the historic Colorado Governor's mansion where he resides with his dog, Sky!
The secret to the states success in craft beer lies within its topography - water is an essential ingredient in beer and the natural waters that make their way down Colorado's breath-taking Rockies are prefect for making a good brew.
Visitors to the Rocky Mountain State can combine a holiday with an organised brewery tour or alternatively for the freedom and delight in exploration it is possible to tour the state while taking in a brewpub in each town.
Embracing Colorado's fondness for craft breweries, it is only apt that a number of festivals celebrating all things beer related take place throughout the year. Dates for the diary include the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous and the prestigious Great American Beer Festival, however throughout the year many Colorado towns and cities also hold their own beer-related festivities.
The 18th Annual Colorado Brewers Rendezvous, organised by the Colorado Brewers' Guild is held in beautiful Salida, Colorado annually on the second Saturday in July where 75 Colorado craft brewers showcase world-class beers to over 2500 people. The Great American Beer Festival is organised by the Brewers Association, based in Boulder, Colorado. The festival itself is held in Denver each autumn and welcomes brewers from across the US where attendees have the chance to sample close to 2000 different brews.
