About Volcanoes Safaris
The Volcanoes Safaris Group (VS) is a unique great ape ecotourism business specializing in luxury accommodation and mountain gorilla safaris to Uganda and Rwanda. Volcanoes was the first international upmarket safari company to start taking clients to see the gorillas in Rwanda in 2000 as the country settled down after conflict. In 2014 it became the first international company to open a lodge in Rwanda - Virunga Lodge.
The construction of the lodge was part of a public-private eco-tourism project created and led by Volcanoes Safaris and supported by the British government. The Volcanoes Safaris Business Linkages Challenge Fund Project (BLCF) undertook a series of initiatives to kick-start gorilla tourism in post-conflict Rwanda. Volcanoes has three other properties in Uganda: Kyambura Gorge, the contemporary wildlife and chimpanzee lodge, Bwindi, the jungle gorilla lodge and Mount Gahinga, where guests can share the culture of the ancient Batwa pygmies, track the golden monkey and climb a volcano.
The company set up the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust, in 2009 which links neighbouring communities to conservation and ecotourism in keeping with the volcanoes distinctive vision for great ape eco-tourism. Volcanoes Safaris contribute $100 from the cost of every safari to the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust.
