La Manga Club has taken steps to expand its reputation as one of the world's elite football training break destinations after appointing Ivan Gomez as the Spanish resort's new commercial director of football.
The Spaniard has a wealth of experience in global sports communications and has worked for a number of leading football organisations including, most recently, LaLiga, where he was responsible for coordinating the international expansion of Spain's top league to the Chinese, Indian and Indonesian markets.
Gomez took up his new role earlier this month, and one of his first tasks will be to reinforce the position of La Manga Club as a first-choice warm-weather training break destination to the Asian market.
Eduardo Ruiz, general director of sports at La Manga Club, said: “Ivan has an outstanding knowledge and understanding of the football world, and we are sure that his professional experience and links will help to further improve our image as a top sports resort in Asian countries.”
La Manga Club's reputation as a market leader for a football training break continues to grow, with its extensive sports and leisure facilities including eight FIFA-approved full-size grass pitches.
Chelsea, Bournemouth, Everton and Southampton were among the clubs to take advantage of a pre-season training camp at the resort this summer, while last winter alone saw more than 4,000 players from 25-plus different countries visit the award-winning venue in Murcia, south-east Spain.
La Manga Club opened a new Chelsea FC Foundation Soccer School – the first of its kind in Spain – earlier this year while other facilities include three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm Wellness Centre. In addition, the resort offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 15 bars and restaurants.
