The town of Telford seems inextricably linked with industrial progress and the Industrial Revolution.
Yet Telford is a 'new town' created and developed in the 1960s and 1970s. What makes us think of the town's industrial 'heritage' is that it was named after civil engineer Thomas Telford, and also its close proximity to Ironbridge, known as the Birthplace of Industry, which is located on Telford's outer reaches.
But it's not all historic iron works and coal fields: a burgeoning town needs leisure pursuits and one place which fits the bill nicely is the Telford Hotel & Golf Resort, part of the multi-award-winning QHotels group.
As hotels in Shropshire go, it doesn't get much better: from the stunning views across the Shropshire countryside and the Iron Bridge to the fabulous four-star facilities in the hotel. What's more – and of most relevance to us – is that its 6,741-yard, picturesque parkland golf course was where former Masters champion and Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam recorded his first professional victory.
The course's signature hole is the eighth, a 382-yard, par-four which requires the drive to be landed to perfection to miss two fairway bunkers, before negotiating a pond with a beautiful mature oak tree … all placed to make the approach shot that little bit more interesting.
But the proof of the pudding, etc … so, rather than simply tell you how the resort is the ideal place for a short golf break, we'd like to invite you to discover it for yourself.
We'd like you – or a suitable colleague – to take up the opportunity for an overnight stay at the Telford Hotel & Golf Resort, on Thursday, July 6, with golf on both Thursday and Friday … or, if you so wish, you can use the Friday to check out Ironbridge (now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site which covers the wider Ironbridge Gorge area), or enjoy some 'me' time in the resort's sumptuous spa.
We feel your readers would be keen to learn more about this resort which is an ideal base for a short Shropshire break, within easy driving distance of your patch – and we hope you agree.
Included in your visit would be bed-and-breakfast accommodation and dinner in the hotel on the Thursday night.
If this heady mix of relaxation, golf and history appeals to you, please contact the undersigned.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Dave
