Berts Jazz Bar at The Merchant Hotel, Belfast is playing homage to the decadent 1920s this month, inviting film fans to savour the style, sounds, swills and fare of The Great Gatsby.
Coinciding with the hotly anticipated release of Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of the iconic novel, ‘Gatsby at Berts’ food and cocktail menus will summon the spirit of the Roaring Twenties throughout May, giving Belfast’s guys and dolls the chance to sample the lavish lifestyles of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchannan.
Complementing the opulent art deco elegance of the venue, Berts’ special set menu is inspired by the decadent cuisine of the era and features mouth-watering choices such as a Waldorf salad with candied walnuts, blue cheese fritters & apple; Hors d’Oeuvres with devilled eggs, crudités & cold meats and a banana, butterscotch and walnut ice cream dessert curiously named ‘Banana Financier.’ A taste of the Twenties’ lifestyle won’t require Gatsby-esque deep pockets either, with two courses for £16.50, or three courses for £19.50 5pm-10pm Sunday to Friday.
For those wanting a taste of the lush parties of the period, a specially curated cocktail list includes a variety of classic drinks typical of the era including a Champagne Julep, a gin based beauty called The Pink Shimmy and an absinthe laced gin cocktail called The Monkey Gland.
The Gatsby at Bert’s set menu and cocktail lists are available until the end of May, creating the perfect pre and post cinema venue for fans of The Great Gatsby.
