The newly refurbished Rubens at the Palace has launched a hotel experience that can make guests' stay healthier and more environmentally friendly. The new 'Go Green' package includes a vegan afternoon tea, the chance to learn about The Rubens' innovative Living Wall, an outdoor exercise session, and even a discount on the use of a Santander bicycle. The package, which is part of The Rubens' wider sustainability efforts, is available to book now and offers a great way to protect the environment while experiencing a luxurious hotel stay.
Upon arrival, a staff member tells guests about the Rubens' striking Living Wall, which measures 3,750 square feet and contains 10,000 herbaceous plants. The wall, which is the visual centerpiece of the hotel's sustainability efforts, provides a habitat for local wildlife, improves the air quality of the surrounding neighborhood of Victoria, and acts as natural insulation for the building.
Guests are also treated to a delicious vegan afternoon tea, a new addition to the hotel's menu offerings. A superb selection of loose leaf teas and refreshing infusions are served alongside vegan sandwiches (including wild mushroom, avocado and arugula), plain or chocolate chip scones with strawberry jam and vegan butter, and mouth-watering sweets such as The Rubens' royal chocolate cake, zesty lemon and ginger bars, and English rose macarons.
'Go Green' includes the opportunity to join a member of the Rubens' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team for an outdoor walking or jogging session, and guests are encouraged to explore London using a Santander bicycle during their stay. Those who do end up using this pollution-minimizing bike will have $6.50 removed from their bill. At checkout, guest invoices are emailed rather than printed, as the hotel strives to cut down on paper waste.
“Our new 'Go Green' experience is the perfect way for guests to play an active part in some of our CSR initiatives, while enjoying a luxurious stay at The Rubens,” said Malcolm Hendry, general manager of The Rubens at the Palace. “We strive every day to minimize our impact on the environment without compromising on quality or service, and we're excited that 'Go Green' puts this commitment front and center of the guest experience.”
The Rubens at the Palace is part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, a family-run company with a proven commitment to sustainability. Considered one of the most 'green' hotels across the collection, The Rubens' CSR team implements measures that minimize the hotel's impact on the environment. This includes everything from sourcing energy-efficient light bulbs, to recycling candles, soaps and shampoos, to the elimination of single use plastics (part of the hotel collection's Multi-Year Plastics Elimination Strategy). One of The Travel Corporation's (TTC) portfolio of brands, Red Carnation works in collaboration with its not-for-profit TreadRight Foundation to research and successfully implement green initiatives throughout its hotels and the company as a whole.
The 'Go Green' package at The Rubens at The Palace is available from $490 per night, based on two adults sharing a Classic Double room and including full breakfast (the hotel also has a vegan breakfast option).* The package also includes a specially designed Starlight cocktail on arrival, with $1.30 from every cocktail purchased at the hotel donated to the Starlight Children's Foundation.
