- 33 Greek museums & archaeological sites to be open until 8pm, 7 days a week
As of next Tuesday, April 1st 2014, 33 of Greece's most popular museums and archaeological sites will be extending their opening hours and will be open to the public from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. Amongst the selected sites are the Acropolis of Athens, the temple of Poseidon in cape Sounio, Ancient Olympia in the Peloponnese, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Palace of Knossos in Crete. - Record tourist arrivals to Athens and Thessaloniki during January & February 2014
According to provisional data, both airports of Athens and Thessaloniki saw a significant increase of arrivals during the first two months of 2014 (Jan-Feb), compared to the same period last year. During this period international arrivals to Athens grew by 30.5%, reaching 263,761 thousand passengers compared to 202,057 in 2013 according to data provided by the Athens Airport, while arrivals to Thessaloniki saw an increase of 17.5%, reaching 118,926 thousand passengers compared to 101,177 in 2013, according to the Greek Civil Aviation Authority (YPA). - EasyJet planning to launch 9 new routes in Greece
As part of broadening its activity in Greece, EasyJet is planning to launch 9 new routes from and to Greece. According to the recent announcement, 54 per cent of the available seats will be for the UK market. EasyJet is hoping to further strengthen the connection of major European markets with popular tourism destinations in Greece something that will lead in attracting more visitors to the country. Open House Worldwide is a renowned global network of Open House events with a simple but powerful concept: Showcasing outstanding architecture for all to experience, completely for free. In this context, 49 public and private buildings in Athens will be the next ones opening their doors on 5-6 April 2014 for everyone to participate in free architectural tours and get a chance to explore the city's historical and contemporary architectural treasures, as part of the first Open House Athens (OHA) initiative. - The Odeon of Herodes Atticus on the top of the list of the world's most spectacular theatres
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens won the first place on Telegraph's list of the world most spectacular theatres based on their location, their architecture and their history. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus was built in 174 AD on the south slope of the Acropolis rock, had a seating capacity of 5,000 and amazing acoustics. The seating and stage was restored in the 1950's and since then it has hosted numerous concerts and theatrical plays from all around the globe. - The 2nd XTERRA Greece Championship to be held at Lake Plastira on the 21st of June
XTERRA is the world's premier off-road multisport event, an extreme competition that combines swimming with mountain biking and trail running.
