Glorious Gardens from Around the World

La Mamounia, Marrakech, Morocco

La Mamounia is set in royal gardens, styled with Moorish opulence, and as sensuous as a seraglio. Surrounded by 700 year old olive trees in this 18th century garden that Sultan Mohammed III gave to his son, Prince Moulay Mamoun, for a wedding gift, the hotel is truly spectacular. The gardens make up 20 acres of lush grounds and were once described by Winston Churchill as "the most lovely spot in the whole world,". The beautiful gardens also inspire the culinary treats within the hotel's restaurants. These stunning gardens also protect the breath-taking outdoor swimming pool (please see the attached) and guests can indulge in the exotic surroundings with a cup of fresh mint tea or one of the hotel's decadent ice creams whilst being hypnotised by the magical birdsong.

Rates are from £442 (6,500MAD) per room/night.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo, Lake Como, Italy

Like all historical villas on Lake Como, Grand Hotel Tremezzo is immersed in a beautiful century-old park, a blaze of flowers and plants that give a sensation of harmony and tranquillity in all seasons and a spectacle that changes hour by hour through the day.

The 20,000 sq. m park encloses Grand Hotel Tremezzo with footpaths that wind gently up the hill to the Belvedere, where it adjoins the gardens of Villa Carlotta, the infamous villa on the lake. Rare ancient magnolias stand among an abundance of palms in this wondrously Riviera-like climate. Clouds of azaleas, tulips and geraniums, hedges of rhododendron and beds of hydrangea provide an alternating palette with explosions of pinks and reds, purples and blues that leave breath-taking glimpses of the lake beneath. The tranquil greenery of the park hosts the Piscina dei Fiori, a clay tennis court and the Panoramic Trail, perfect for early morning jogging or just a gentle stroll to fill the lungs with fresh air amidst the stunning scenery. Over the years the park has acquired several pieces of contemporary sculpture placed discreetly amongst the vegetation. Some are quite unexpected, like the much-loved Orsetto Bobo the hotel's mascot: a large teddy bear sitting on a tree trunk who greets everyone who arrives at the top of the hill with a smile.

Prices at Grand Hotel Tremezzo start from £310 (420 Euros) per room per night including tax.

The Little Nell, Aspen, Colorado

Busy Beavers Gardening look after all of the outdoor flowers and plants at The Little Nell. Arabella Beavers, originally from the UK, owns the business with her husband, and is completely inspired by the beautiful gardens in Dorset and south-west England. She attends the Chelsea Flower Show every spring and will be returning again this May to find extra inspiration to bring back to the mountains of Aspen. At The Little Nell, they manage all of the gardens – including those surrounding the front of the hotel and within the courtyard. There's a hillside garden, a clipping garden for fresh cut flowers and an edible herb garden for their fine dining restaurant, element 47. This garden provides herbs and edible florals such as nasturtium, pansy, marigold and viola. The herbs are blended in the overall composition using chives, basil, oregano, sage and thyme. Because of this being near the element 47 kitchen, the staff are able to pick fresh herbs and flowers on a daily basis. This shows how plantings can be sustainable and beautiful, as well. These gardens have been developing over the past five years and keep improving with each growing season. New this summer will be the living wall garden adjacent to the pool in the hotel courtyard. Installation takes place June 8. All gardens will be in full splendour by 17 June in time for the Aspen Food & Wine Classic (June 19 – 21).

Stay at The Little Nell in a Town View room from $425 (£278) per room per night.
