Glamorous islands and coastal locations are the most expensive holiday destinations, according to new data from the World's Leading Hotel Price Comparison Site
The Maldives, Seychelles, Aruba, Monaco and Mauritius are the most expensive destinations for accommodation, according to HotelsCombined, with travellers spending the most per-night on hotels.
HotelsCombined has also named the destinations with the most affordable accommodation and the top countries are well suited to those with an adventurous spirit. Bolivia offers the cheapest hotel rates per-night, followed by Laos, Nepal, Macedonia and Peru.
When it comes to spending money on hotels, HotelsCombined has revealed that Australians, Brits, Norwegians, Russians and Americans are the nationalities that spend the most per night on accommodation.
Global PR and Content Manager of HotelsCombined, Alycia Simons says travellers tend to visit locations like the Maldives for very special occasions and are happy to pay more to do so.
“Destinations like the Maldives, Seychelles and Aruba are once-in-a-lifetime holiday locations. There is an expectation of indulgence when visiting one of these destinations and travellers are willing to pay more to ensure their holiday is a bit more luxurious,” Ms Simons said.
“When we look at the other end of the scale, tourists visiting countries like Bolivia and Laos are looking for an affordable way to experience relatively untouched cultures and locations. While higher-end accommodation is also available in these countries, travellers to these areas are generally happy to stay in more basic accommodation,” Ms Simons continued.
Avid traveller, Cindy Tchung recently returned from a week long holiday on Dhidhoofinolhu Island in the Maldives. She says that while it was an expensive holiday, she was happy to pay more to experience what she calls a 'once in a lifetime' destination.
“We visited the Maldives as a second honeymoon. The trip was about two or three times more expensive than other destinations, but it a destination that I have wanted to experience. I was happy to spend more to make sure that the trip met all of our expectations. That said, if you are willing to shop around it is very possible to find affordable accommodation that still offers the incredible views that the Maldives is famous for,” Ms Tchung said.
