Notes for editors: ABTA is the largest travel trade association in the UK and its Members are responsible for the sale of over 90% of overseas package holidays bought in the UK. Travel companies have to prove that they are financially stable and provide a bond before they are let into ABTA membership. ABTA can then use this bond if a Member fails financially to pay for consumers to either continue their holiday, to rescue them if they are stranded, or to refund them.
ABTA has paid 31.4 million worth of claims over the last ten years to consumers. ABTA Members are also required to follow a strict code of conduct to ensure the highest standards of customer service. If a member of the public has a dispute they cannot resolve with an ABTA Member, ABTA provides a low cost, independent arbitration service administered by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Further information can be found on www.abta.com
