New spa etiquette guide gives Dad's top tips on what to expect
This Father's Day, give your Dad the gift of wellness with a Spafinder Wellness 365 gift card. Your Dad can enjoy treatments at over 1,000 spas, salons and studios in the UK, and over 20,000 locations around the world. Not seen as the traditional choice of Father's Day gift, recent figures in fact reveal that 35 per cent of spa visitors are now male [1], so why not give your Dad the gift of pampering this year?
Spafinder Wellness 365 reveals that the most requested spa treatment for men is massage, followed by pedicures, facials and body scrubs [2]. The vouchers not only give the user the flexibility of choosing where to spend the voucher, recipients can also decide what to spend the voucher on. Participating spas include Gentlemen's Tonic; COMO Shambhala Urban Escape at Metropolitan London; Pennyhill Park Hotel & Spa, Bagshot; Crerar Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa and The Vale Resort, Ystradowen.
For the inexperienced Dad, Spafinder has also put together an etiquette guide to follow during their first spa experience, created to relieve Dads of any concerns they may have before a great day at the spa.
DO arrive early - Always arrive 20 minutes before your treatment. This gives you time to explore the available facilities at the spa, have a shower before your treatment and to simply relax.
DO shower before your treatment -Spas will have shower facilities for you to use, your therapist will appreciate it.
DO ask questions- Don't be afraid to ask your therapist questions, find out as much as you can on the benefits of the treatment you are undergoing and the after-care.
DO turn your phone off - Don't let your phone distract you, turn it off and relax.
DO tip if you enjoy the service – But don't feel obligated. Although it is not expected, if you've had outstanding service, why not give your therapist a 10-15 per cent tip.
DON'T feel guilty for “spoiling” yourself - Regular treatments can help reduce everyday stress and lead to an all-round healthier life, these aren't luxuries.
DON'T be self-conscious - Your therapist has seen it all before, don't let insecurity ruin your visit.
DON'T worry about getting “excited” - Many men worry about getting excited during a massage, this is perfectly normal. You can ask your therapist to pause the treatment, or, if you're really concerned, choose a back massage.
DON'T get naked - When in doubt, keep your pants on, it is rare that you will be asked to get completely undressed.
