Its girl power all the way at Perisher Blue on Saturday 30th August with the ski resort playing host to Boarding for Breast Cancer Day, an event held to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Centre.
Girl only half pipe demos, live music from DJ Pitty The Kidd, a Yen magazine rail grinding session, an art exhibition and to top it all off a massive charity auction will all be part of the days festivities.
Leading professional female snowboarders including event organisers and international stars, Sasha Ryzy and Katie Brauer, will be jumping into the pipe along with Emily Thomas, Danah Besson, Abi Bright and more.
The event not only contributes to a great cause but also encourages women to take part in snow sports. A few years ago the number of females participating in snow activities was declining, however thanks to Perisher Blues female oriented events and promotions women now make up 47% of participants with the hope of increasing this figure to 50% in the near future.
In 2002 Perisher Blue discovered that women were being turned off skiing and boarding due to the way it was being promoted, images of young men speeding down slopes suggested resorts were an intimidating place for women. Now with female only events, and ski classes, women are returning to the slopes said Gary Grant GM Marketing & Resort Services.
The boys wont be totally left out with males more than welcome to have a go. Snowboarders Marcus Stocker and Nick Gregory are even lending the girls a helping hand by making a special appearance with Marcus acting as Master of Ceremonies.
Money is being raised through the huge charity auction, the Art from the Heart Tent, where designs from Beci Orpin and photography from Andrew Christie and Anthea Paul will be showcased and also through donation boxes in various outlets at Perisher Blue.
Big name companies supporting the event include Electric, Burton, Roxy, Billabong, Mambo, RipCurl, Hurley, DC and 1800 Reverse.
The celebration kicks off at 9am at Perisher Blues Half Pipe located on Front Valley.
