Due to increased passenger demand Gulf Air has trained a new group of flight attendants to become part of the worlds only in-flight sky nanny service, taking the airlines Sky Nanny contingent to more than 200 by end of 2006. Gulf Air flight attendants visited Bath in February to undergo an intensive four-day training programme held at the home of the world renowned Norland College. Our Sky Nanny service has been embraced by our passengers since the day we launched it and our latest group of recruits means we now have 150 qualified sky nannies in service, says Gulf Air Head of In-flight Services Michael Kent. The Sky Nanny programme is now a core component of our in-flight services which cater to the individual needs of all our customers, no matter how young or old they are. Gulf Air has seen an increase in demand for the in-flight service since launching the worlds first Sky Nanny on its London - Sydney route in November 2003. Research conducted by Gulf Air to mark the launch of the Sky Nanny service revealed that air passengers find children more annoying than drunks, arm rest huggers and nosy neighbours. More than 2,000 people were questioned in a nationwide survey on travelling by air with children and keeping children amused for both the sake of the parents and fellow passengers is a top priority. When asked what was their greatest concern when travelling with children, parents and guardians overwhelmingly said that it was keeping children occupied during the flight (68 per cent). Its not only parents that the Gulf Air Sky Nanny pleases. Fellow passengers voiced strong views about in-flight children with 52% saying they are fine most of the time, but the noise can be ear-splitting! The main duties of the Sky Nanny are to provide care and attention for children from the moment they board the flight to the end of their journey. The course includes learning about childrens physical, cognitive, linguistic, emotional and social development, how to manage childrens behaviour in a positive manner, and how to provide suitable activities for young children when travelling. At the end of the course the Gulf Air crew member must demonstrate an understanding of how they can best meet the needs of babies, young children and their families who travel with Gulf Air. It has been wonderful to work with Gulf Air again. We are privileged to be working with the extremely professional members of Gulf Air cabin crew and very happy that we have helped to make a positive contribution to the wellbeing of children and families when travelling, says Norland College Principal Thirza Ashelford. The Gulf Air Sky Nanny service is available free of charge on all of Gulf Airs long-haul routes. Sky Nannies currently operate on daily services to and from the Gulf and beyond. About Gulf Air
