Get Ready to Rediscover the Discovered

Heritage Perth

Do you know Perth? Do you know the history and the colourful yarns behind the buildings and the characters that created this wonderful city?  If not, then make sure you don’t miss this year’s Perth Heritage Days.

In 2009 Heritage Perth hosted the first Perth Heritage Days.  In its fifth year, it has become Perth’s largest and most inclusive heritage event with visitations of over 50,000 in 2012. A FREE family event, it is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to rediscover the discovered in the buildings, parks, theatres, museums, libraries, clubs and hotels of the city.

Different from other heritage events, Heritage Days strives to present our history in all its forms. From the traditional owners of the land to our city’s wonderful architecture, there are stories of amazing characters in government, society and behind the buildings. There are also yarns about our gardens and their importance in our community, not only for their beauty, but also for the production of food in the Swan River Colony. The arts and their evolution are not forgotten either, nor is our medical history or religion. All provide stories that show us how Perth as we know it today came to be.

An exciting program, including many new activities, is planned for 2013. Visitors will have the chance to take a guided tour of the rather private historic Karrakatta Club and view an exhibition of art works owned by Royal Perth Hospital in the rarely seen Kirkman House. There will be thought provoking indigenous tours and tours of the Supreme Court building in Stirling Gardens.   And for the first time this year, the entire programme will be available as a free smartphone app, which will help participants plan and book their entire weekend

Perth has a fascinating past, so don’t miss the chance to rediscover the discovered, during Perth Heritage Days 2013.
