One of the countrys biggest Easter egg hunts will take place across the Lake District at Easter 2010.
The Great Peter Rabbit Easter Egg Hunt will see 100 ceramic Easter eggs hidden in various locations all over Cumbria, with the search beginning on Wednesday 7 April and lasting until the final egg is found.
This unusual Easter egg hunt takes place in an area of more than 6,800 square kilometres (2,600 square miles), so thousands of people are expected to get involved in this eggstraordinary event.
There will be some fantastic prizes up for grabs for the successful egg hunters.
The eggs themselves will be hand made by artist Sue Dunne and will be real collectors items. The design of the eggs will based on The Tale of Mrs Tittlemouse which has its 100th anniversary in 2010.
A special website www.golakes.co.uk/peterrabbit - will keep everyone up to date with the thrill of the hunt online, and the site will also give additional clues as to where the eggs might be hidden.
Details about the location of the eggs will be available on the website after Peter Rabbit launches the egg hunt at The World of Beatrix Potter AttractionTM in Bowness-on-Windermere at 10.00 on 7 April.
Richard Foster, the general manager of the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, says:
The Great Peter Rabbit Easter Egg Hunt gets people right across the county hunting high and low and far and wide for these beautifully designed eggs.
The competition is open to all comers, so anyone planning their Easter holidays in the Lake District can join in the hunt. They will need to keep their eyes peeled as the eggs could be anywhere!.
The Peter Rabbit Easter egg hunt is being organised by The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, Cumbria Tourism and Frederick Warne, publisher of the Beatrix PotterTM books.
This is the third year the countryside where Beatrix Potter set most of her famous stories has formed the backdrop to the giant egg hunt. With such a variety of scenery, the eggs could be found near lakes, beaches or even in towns and villages. The eggs wont be buried, so no special egg hunting equipment will be required, just keep your eyes open!
