get lost heads to the warm waters of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific in search of the best experiences both regions have to offer
The newest issue of get lost magazine is set to ignite debate as Southeast Asia and the South Pacific go head to head in a battle of the souths. Both boast cool festivals, untouched islands, awesome dive sites, and marine life galore. There's no winner here though, we leave that up to you, the reader, to decide as we just couldn't choose.
So, in the name of research and a fair fight, we asked the big questions: Vanuatu's Insta-worthy Blue Cave or Malaysia's Deer Cave (formerly known as the world's biggest cave)? Sinking bevs at Cerevisia Craft Brewhouse in Cambodia or knocking back a cold one at Rarotonga Brewery in the Cook Islands? Sailing off into the Indonesian sunset on 26-metre eco-friendly yacht or a private cruise through the Solomon Islands? Swimming with whale sharks or diving with humpbacks? Ultimately, the choice is up to you!
“Both these regions are very different and yet there are some obvious similarities. It would be remiss of us to say one is better than the other because they both offer so much, and of course, we're just not prepared to choose,” said Anna Kantilaftas, get lost Editor.
“We're all about finding the unknown, exploring a little deeper and searching for authentic experiences, and we think we've found a lot of them in this special section.”
It's not all white-sand beaches, resorts and hidden surf spots in this issue though. Carrie Hutchinson takes to the skies on a safari like no other – an incredible nine-day flying tour over Kenya, accompanied by wildlife experts, on a quest to spot some of Africa's most at-risk animals. A routine rafting trip turns near catastrophic as Lachie Carracher leads a group of keen adventurers on a paddle down the Kimberley's churning Fitzroy River. And Franziska Knupper evades suspicious border patrol officers in an attempt to find an electro music festival in Wadi Rum, a transformative and enlightening event held in the Jordanian desert.
We also spend a night wandering the raucous backstreets of Taipei, get the inside word on where to eat, drink and party in downtown Reykjavik and skip out on mainland Portugal in favour of a trip to the mysterious Azores.
Issue 58 of get lost is on sale from this week at newsagents and online from Apple Newsstand and Amazon.
