Already the cool air of winter is sneaking its way beneath our doors and making getting out of bed even harder than normal. Which got us to thinking: just what are the greatest adventures you can have when the wind chill is up and the snow is down? So in the latest issue of get lost we've uncovered 50 of the greatest cold weather adventures from around the globe.
Whether being dropped on the edge of a precipice in Alaska with naught but a pair of skis to get you back to civilisation or slipping into a dry suit to explore the underside of an iceberg gets your motor running, your dream adventure is on our pages. Rug up, pack an extra beanie and strap on your snowshoes because events are about to take an icy, epic twist. Rest assured, though, that for those of you more like to indulge in après action and high-altitude festivals than death-defying mountain plunges and glacier summits we've got you covered too.
“Obviously skiing is one of the most popular winter sports going,” says get lost publisher Justin Jamieson, “but there's actually a huge number of other winter sports and activities you'd never imagine you could take part in. Plus there are lots of places you can go skiing off the beaten path with unique cultural perspectives and a more individual style than the well-known resorts.
“For those with a true spirit of adventure, you can go downhill skiing in Iran, head to Latvia and pretend you're a member of the national bobsled team or wade into icy waters in South Korea to try and catch mountain trout by hand.”
Elsewhere in the new issue, we meet the coolest man in the Caribbean and join his annual party in Anguilla, discover a little known pocket of Europe where visitors are few and far between, go hunting for treasure on a far-flung Chilean island, and take a trek for a good cause to Annapurna Base Camp. There's also the outlandish after-dark fiesta that is Tasmania's Dark Mofo, a tour of Harlem's musical highlights and an insider guide to one of Tokyo's quirky-cool neighbourhoods.
You'll find all this and more in the latest issue of get lost magazine. On sale 1 April from newsagents and online from Apple Newsstand and Amazon.
