In 2018, we're encouraging you to get lost with purpose. That was our inspiration for issue 55's 20-page feature, which shares 18 life-changing experiences to be found around the globe. These are New Years' resolutions you'll actually want to keep.
From learning to dance in the streets of Cuba or successfully holding a single breath while free diving in Indonesia, to conquering your fear of heights in the rugged hills of the United Kingdom or mastering tracking wildlife in Namibia, these are the experiences that will create an imprint of memories that will last a lifetime.
“We wanted to kick off 2018 by inspiring people to explore a destination on a deeper level in a way that not only brings them closer to the locals and their culture, but also allows them to return home with a cool skill that they can use in their regular life,” says get lost publisher Justin Jamieson.
“These experiences are the 'fantasy' adventures people often joke about pursuing one day, but when you read through the experiences the get lost team has found, you'll be blown away what you can learn while abroad – whether that's sailing through the British Virgin Islands or flinging yourself off South Africa's mountains to become a licensed paraglider. It's immersive travel at its finest.”
Want to go even deeper? We sidestep Russia's capital and its treasures in favour of the Arctic plains of Siberia, where we learn the secrets of the local shaman, and the creatures of the Peruvian Amazon joined our rave as we explore one of the world's largest and most interesting tropical rainforests. Plus, we delve into the history of the USA's Fort Worth, hang out with gelada monkeys in Ethiopia's rugged highlands and take flight on a lip-smacking food and drink safari in Australia's tropical northeast.
We've also taken on the nightlife in Athens, walked alongside the pilgrims of a unique religious festival in Indonesia and discovered the best district to chow down on biryani in India.
You'll find all this and more in the new issue of get lost magazine. On sale this from this week at newsagents and online from Apple Newsstand and Amazon.
