Get Into The Swing...Oakmont Hosts The U.S. Open

Pennsylvania Tourism

History will be made when Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania hosts the U.S. Open Golf Championship in June 11-17, 2007. This is the first time that the U.S. Open has returned to a course eight times.

Oakmont Country Club is regarded as one of the most challenging golf courses in the country with its deep, thick rough and fast, and hard greens. Located on the outskirts of Pittsburgh it is alongside the all-time greats of The Old Course at St Andrews and Augusta National. The Club is considered to be the toughest golf course in the US, and has hosted no fewer than 13 national championships, including seven US.

The US Open returns to the State in 2013 where it will takes place at Merion Golf Club, East Course, Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania has more golf courses per capita than any other US state with over 700, of which 500 are open to the public and many of which are award-winning courses and have hosted PGA tours.

The first dedicated golf brochure has been launched featuring courses and clubs which neighbour battlefields, hideout in the Pocono Mountains, are founded on chocolate and even exhibit Steve McQueens plane! The brochure provides a listing of UK golf operators as well as tour operators and airlines serving Pennsylvania. A state location map highlights 36 clubs while top tips are given from the golf travel experts on golfing holidays in the US.
